Marcia Brown Bridget Lambert and Trish Tillman exhibited their work at the Glenview Mansion Art Gallery at Rockville Civic Center Park in July. Their artists' talk was very well attended, and the exhibit received positive reviews in the Washington Post and the Gazette Newspapers.
Lila Oliver Asher Will have a retrospective exhibition of her prints at Strathmore Gallery in Bethesda. It will open on November 17 and run through the end of the year.
Janet Maher Is taking part in an exhibit at Evergreen House 4545 N. Charles St., Baltimore, MD (410) 516-0341.  The "Kings, Hummingbirds & Monsters: Artist's Books at Evergreen" exhibit continues through February 28, 2002.

Janet Maher And Terry Nauheim exhibited their ongoing digital mixed
media collaboration, "Bunker Hill News" in the "Speak" venue of
Artscape. Janet's 1981 spoken text piece, from which the new work
generated, was also available in audio form, as was an original 1982
audio work by Manny Rettinger (of Albuquerque, NM), incorporating
voice and text from the original.

Mary Ott Will be exhibiting her monotypes in a New Members Show at Touchstone Gallery, 406 7th Street, NW Washington, DC 20004 (202 347 2787).

Constance Pierce

Was appointed Artist-in-Residence for The College of Arts and Sciences of Cleveland State University, OH, to teach hands-on Creativity Seminars in “Visual Journal: Imaging the Interior.” She also presented the “Visual Journal” seminar for physicians at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation in October, and presented similar seminars for healthcare professionals specializing in Hospice and Oncology in March and April. She presented a workshop for arts educators at The Yale Center for British Art in Oct., focusing on “Travel Sketchbooks” in conjunction with the Edward Lear exhibition. She exhibited work in “Printmakers A to Z: Selections from The Special Collections” at The Fairfield Gallery of Georgetown University in Washington DC last fall, had a solo retrospective of monotypes at The International Marion Research Institute of Dayton University, OH last summer, and curated an exhibition of her Yale students’ Visual Journals at The Rotunda Gallery of the Yale School of Medicine. She exhibited in “Restoring the Soul Conference Exhibition” at The Rhode Island Council for the Arts and The Macey Gallery of Columbia University last June, and presented a week’s seminar for art educators at the statewide conference of The Whole Schools Institute, at Millsaps College in Jackson, MS, in July.


Sue Anne Bottomley The work and technical innovations of Sue Anne Bottomley are included in a new book called Handmade Prints, edited by Anne Desmet (editor of Printmaking Today) and Jim Anderson. This book, published in the UK and Germany, is available in the US through Davis Publications, Worcester, Massachusetts (www.davis-art.com ). This factually dense and gorgeously illustrated book is 134 pages, and includes prints by adults and children. The cost is $25.
Shireen Holman Has recently had her artist’s books shown in “Hand-Pulled Prints IX,” San Antonio, Texas; in “Books Speak: Out of the Mainstream,” at Montgomery College; and in “Alumni and Inspiration Show,” Oberlin, Ohio. Her books have also been recently collected by Virginia Commonwealth University and The Ringling School of Art & Design.
Janet Maher Work was included in "Opened Book: Women's Stories by Washington Area Artists," curated by Kristen Hileman, at The Art Gallery, University of Maryland, College Park, Mar. 21 - Apr. 21, 2001. She was also chosen as an artist for Maryland Art Place's Critics Residency Program. The show was the first at MAP's new exhibition space in downtown Baltimore, and writing about the artists is included in the Vol. 6, "Pilgrimage," issue of of "LINK: A Critical Journal of the Arts in Baltimore and the World."
Bernard Shleien

Had an exhibition of woodcuts at Gallery Two, National Institutes of Health Clinical Center (Building 10), from January 6-March 3, 2001. His art resume and several of the works can be seen at: bshleien.home.netcom.com\index.htm.

Lila Oliver Asher's The Jundt Museum in Spokane, Washington, has acquired 18 of Lila Oliver Asher's prints. And the Corcoran Gallery has added one of her prints to their permanent collection.
Members of Maryland Printmakers  Won awards in the 2000 67th Annual International Exhibition of Fine Arts Miniatures of the Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers Society of Washington, D.C. Genevieve Roberts won 1st place and honorable mention in Graphics with her etchings, and 3rd place in Landscape with an etching and aquatint. Jacqueline DeMoss placed 3rd in Graphics with an etching and aquatint. The show continues at the Strathmore Hall Art Center in Rockville until December 30th.
Mary D. Ott  Had an exhibit called Asian Visions at Gallery West in Alexandria, VA,
Oct. 12-Nov. 5. The exhibit focused on the imagery of a number of Asian cultures. It included monotypes of palace courtyards, inspired by the Topkapi exhibit at the Corcoran Gallery of Art, images of Middle Eastern gates and walls, and architectural imagery from India. Brightly colored kimono designs, abstract images of dragons, and paintings of Buddha reflected the cultures of Japan and China. Finally, there was a series of small prints on Tibetan hand-made paper.

Cecily Barth Firestein Recently exhibited mixed media monotypes at The Interchurch Center in New York City. She will also have work in the MEN exhibit, Dec. 12-Jan. 13.
Caroline Thorington Was one of seven artists in the National Invitational Print Exhibition, “Point of View”, which was held in Recitation Hall Gallery at the University of Delaware in Newark from Sept 15-Oct 4, 2000. As part of the exhibition, Caroline was invited to come as a Visiting Artist and give a Lithography Demonstration and a Gallery Talk, and hold critiques with students. In November, Thorington was the Fall-Matrix Visiting Artist at the University of Dallas, Irving, TX. The University of Dallas held an exhibition of her work in the University Gallery, where she gave a gallery talk and a slide lecture. She also worked in the studio with the advanced printmaking students to produce a black and white tusche lithograph.
Alice-Marie Gravely In November, showed new works at the Foundry Gallery, Washington, D.C. In December, she will be featured in “Watercolor,” a national magazine published by American Artist.

Friday, Oct. 20th, at 7pm, is the opening reception for "Juxtaposition", new works by Alice-Marie Gravely at the Foundry Gallery, 9 Hillyer Ct., NW Washington, DC, (through the arch at the Phillips Collection and turn right). The exhibit will continue until Nov. 6th. Alice-Marie will be featured in "Watercolor", a national magazine published by American Artist in December.

Allegra Marquart

Mildred Monat Isaacs Along with other MD Printmakers, was fortunate to have been selected to participate in a juried show in May, at Government House in Annapolis, featuring "Works by Contemporary Maryland Artists 2000." Mrs. Glendening hosted artists and friends in a most festive and lovely opening. Mildred's work was a handmade paper piece with collaged relief print, entitled "Bullseye." Two more related contemporary shows will open in the next few months at Government House. Other MD Printmakers will be in these, as well.
Cecily Barth Firestein  Will have a solo show of her monotypes in the Treasure room Gallery of the Interchurch Center, 475 Riverside Drive, New York City. She also received the National Association of Women Artists Award for printmaking, 2000.
Susan Due Pearcy

Had a one person exhibit of prints and mixed media work at Kavehaz, the Gallery Café, in SoHo in April-May 2000. Her Alzheimer Series will hang at the National Institutes of Health in May. A print was selected for the SSAG 14th Mini Print International in NY. It will travel for several years.

Maryland Printmakers 1999 Folio Will be on exhibit at the Montpelier Cultural Arts Center in November. The opening is scheduled for November 17 at 7:30 pm.
Mary D. Ott Will have a solo show at Gallery West in Alexandria, VA, from Oct. 12 through Nov. 5 of 2000.
Genevieve Roberts Was featured in January on ART STROKES Montgomery TV Channel 21. The program included her studio, prints, paintings, a demonstration of printmaking, and an interview. This will be aired again later this year.
Helga Thomson Had her solo show of monoprints, <Downloading>, at the Washington Printmakers Gallery, March 3 to April 2. Two of her works from this new series were also selected by the Southern Graphics Council Traveling Juried Show, 2000.
Linda Harrison-Parsons Marilu Tousignaut and Mary Pfister will be exhibiting their work at the Kentlands Mansion Art Gallery, May 3 - July 3, 2000. Kentlands is at 320 Kent Sq., Gaithersburg, MD 20787, (301)-258-6425.

Has a solo show of lithograph collages and pottery at Elzeard Pottery Gallery, 602 South Ann St., Baltimore Apr. 1 - May 17, 2000. 
She exhibited mixed media assemblages with Lyndie Vantine and Terry Nauheim at Resurgam Gallery, Baltimore, "Reclaimed/Recombined," Feb. 1 - 27, 2000.  
For five months, she collaborated with eight other artists to produce the installation exhibition "Displaced Realities: The Space Between," at Maryland Art Place, Oct.-Nov. 1999. Her artist's book, "On the Road," was included in the invitational exhibit of the Pyramid Atlantic Book Arts Fair at the Corcoran Gallery this fall, and she recieved a Purchase Award for her drawing in the Halpert Biennial at the Catherine J. Smith Gallery, Appalachian State University. She was invited to exhibit a series of her digital prints in "Outside Impressions: a showcase of contemporary printmaking" at University Art Gallery, Governor's State University, IL this past summer. Also during the summer selections from her "On the Road" series were included in the Maryland Art Place juried exhibition at Artscape, Baltimore, and she was selected as one of ten artists to create a Viewing Station for Artscape on the theme, "Martyrology."

Patricia Underwood Had prints featured in a 4 woman show entitled “Reflections”, at Hodson Art Gallery, Tatem Art Center, Hood College, 401 Rosement Avenue, Frederick, MD. (301) 663-3131.  The show ran from March 4 through April 1. Reception was Sunday, March 5, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Patricia presented a lecture “Bimbos & Goddesses” on her work in the show on Wednesday, March 29, at Whitaker Campus Center, Campus Commons, from 12:00 - 1:30 p.m. This wass part of Hood College’s Lunchtime Cafe Series.
Ellen Vartanoff Had an exhibit of work called Flair!: Revolving and Current Retrospective of Prints and Papermaking at The Faculty of Art Gallery , Holton Arms, The Center of the Arts, 6108 River Rd., Bethesda, MD (301-365-6098). The show was up from September 1999 – December 1999. 
Allegra Marquart Had an exhibit of her work, Seven Years, Prints & Paintings, at the Goya Girl Press in Baltimore.
Ray Esposito Was juried into four shows this spring, including the Art League at the Torpedo factory. The other three were “Watermark '99” in Whiteville, NC, the “1999 National Works on Paper” at St. Johns University and “Abstraction Distraction” at the Fredericksburg Center for the Creative Arts. Ray will also be participating in the Washington Area Printmakers annual calendar.
Cecily Barth Firestein Was recently presented at the Project Room of the Phoenix Gallery in New York displaying recent rubbings lifted from New York landmarks. Also available was her book Making Paper and Fabric Rubbings.

Was accepted into “Small Impressions 1999” sponsored by the Printmaking Council of New Jersey and juried by Alejandro Andrews, Curator of Jersey City Museum.

Constance Pierce Was re-appointment as Artist-in-Residence for a fifth semester at Yale Divinity School, where she will be continuing to teach “Visual Journal: Imaging the Interior.” She also recently completed teaching a Visual Journal course for Art Educators for the New Haven Board of Education. This spring one of her sketchbooks was included in The Archives of American Art at The Smithsonian, and another went into The Yale Arts of the Book Collection of Sterling Memorial Library at Yale.

Dorothea Barrick
Was accepted in the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts Annual Juried Exhibition where she received the Museum Award for Graphics. The piece selected was an etching and multimedia print titled Smokehouse and Ancestors, Mom and Me.

Camellia Blackwell Was included in the program of presentations for the 1999 National Art Education Association convention held in Washington D.C., March 24-27, 1999. The two topics she presented were: "Integrating Elementary and Middle School Art Instruction with Studies in Other Subjects" and "Mural-ity":A Collaborative Mural Project. She was also selected to travel to Cergy-Pontroise, France April 30-May 9, 1999, to participate in the Columbia, MD Sister City Artist Exchange Program. In October 1999, she will home-host the French artist with whom she will reside in France.

Exhibited some of her large-scale monotypes from April 21-May 15 at the Phoenix Gallery in New York City’s Soho. She is also author of a book on rubbings (a form of printmaking), entitled, Rubbing Craft (published by Quick Fox), and her new book on the subject, Making Paper and Fabric Rubbings (published by Lark Books) which appeared on bookshelves in April.

Linda Harrison-Parsons Exhibited new works in a show titled "Sticks & Stones," from April 1-May 2, at the Artists’ Gallery in Frederick, Maryland.
Mitch Lyons Exhibited recent clayprints at the Esther M. Klein Art Gallery, Philadelphia, PA., from March 18-April 10.
John Blair Mitchell Was one of two Baltimore artists chosen for the 11th National Drawing and Print Competitive Exhibition at the College of Notre Dame of Maryland, Gormley Gallery. His lithograph was awarded a purchase prize. Juror, Jan Howard, Curator of Prints, Drawings, and Photographs at the Baltimore Museum of Art, selected 34 works from the more than 600 entries submitted nationwide. The exhibition, which opened with a reception and gallery talk by the curator on March 10, continued through April 21.
Elizabeth Stevens
Participated in the exhibit, "Continuing Tradition: Doubly Gifted Artists," an exhibit of visual imagery and words. This show featured her etchings and poetry. The exhibition was on display at Atelier A/E in Manhattan, New York. This show is part of a traveling show with a number of poetry readings connected with it. Nine Maryland Printmakers

1998 World Print Festival. Nine Maryland Printmakers were selected by jury for the 1998 World Print Festival in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Aline Feldman was awarded a Sponsor’s $500 third Prize for one of her woodcuts! Members selected by the jury for inclusion in the catalog were: Camillia Blackwell, Aline Feldman, Kathleen McCrohan, Pamela Lawton, Allegra Marquart, Mary Laur, Megan O’Brien, Sarah Stout, and Caroline Thorington.

Camellia Blackwell Has a mural currently on display at the Maryland Science Center. The mural will be displayed for one year. She also participated in an event with the National Art Education Institute with artist Faith Ringgold at the University of Alaska. A series of her mixed media prints were exhibited in the Native American and Indigenous Art Exhibition at the "Belonging to the Mother Earth" World Conference on the Environment in Virginia in October. Her current exhibition of photographs and prints, titled "Landscapes of Alaska," can be seen in her art gallery/studio/gift shop at Historic Savage Mill, Md.

 

Ray Esposito Won second place printmaking at the 6th Annual Laredo, Texas Center for the Arts juried exhibition.
Susan Goldman Is having an exhibition at the Arts Club of Washington, from March 2 to March 30, 1999. The opening reception is March 5th. She will be exhibiting a series of new monotypes.
Linda Harrison-Parsons Will have an exhibit of new works, "Sticks & Stones," at The Artists’ Gallery in Frederick from April 1 to May 2. The opening reception will be April 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibit will include live trees for anyone to take and plant in celebration of the environment.
Richard Hellman
Was juried into the 1st Northern Ireland International Print Show in Belfast, Ireland, with his lithograph, "Too Much, Too Little." The exhibit was held at the Townhouse Gallery, from November 1 to November 30, 1998.

Tonia Matthews, Trudi Ludwig and Betty MacDonald Of the Washington Printmakers Gallery (1732 Connecticut Ave. NW, new location), have been juried into the Boston Printmakers 1999 North American Printmakers competition. The exhibit will run from March 7 to April 3, 1999, at Emmanuel College, 400 The Fenway, Boston, Mass.
Megan O’Brien Had two monotypes accepted to Stonemetal Press’ 7th Annual International Exhibition in San Antonio, Texas. Her print "Flight at Dawn" was awarded second place. The exhibit takes place from April 8 to May 2, 1999.
Mary D. Ott Will be exhibiting "Images of Costa Rica," Monotypes and Mixed-Media Paintings at Gallery West, Alexandria, Virginia, from April 8 to April 25. The Gala opening will be held Sunday, April 11, from 2 to 5 p.m. The gallery also will host an opening April 8, from 5 to 8 p.m., in coordination with the Gallery West 2nd Thursday Group Show Opening.

Ray Esposito

We Shall Overcome series, #V - "Child Abuse Knows No Color", a cut wood assemblage print, was accepted into the Arts Institute & Gallery show in Salisbury, Maryland. Another in the series, #1 - "Humanity," was accepted into the Florida Printmakers Society show in Ft. Meyers, Florida. A collograph, "Red and Yellow," was accepted into Open Pitt '98 in Pittsburgh, Kansas. Another collograph, "Santa Fe Summer", was accepted into the 6th Annual show in Laredo, Texas and another in that series,"Santa Fe Autumn", was accepted into the Delta National Small Print Exhibition in Jonesboro, Arkansas. In addition, two woodcuts, Honor - "Homage to Mr. P and Compassion", "Homage to Mrs. P", were accepted into Artext '98 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Exhibited lithographs at the Kentlands Mansion, Gaithersburg, Md., Aug. 6-Sept. 23, 1998.

Constance Pierce

Was renewed as a Research Fellow at The Institute of Sacred Music and The Arts at Yale for 1998-99. She was also appointed Artist-in-Residence at The Divinity School at Yale for 1998-99, and will be teaching a course in the Graduate Divinity School at Yale entitled "Visual Journal: Imaging the Interior."

She had two monotypes included in an exhibition in October entitled: "Spirituality and Healing" in New Haven sponsored by the Albert Schweitzer Institute for the Humanities and the Yale Medical School.


Helga Thomson

exhibited her mixed media installation "Promises and Miracles" in the regional artists biennial "Artsites 98" at the WPA/Corcoran. Her work was accepted into the "Non-Toxic 2000 Print Show" at Artspace and at "Hand Workshop Art Center", both in Richmond, Va. Her work can also be seen at the Janer 81 Gallery at 320 East 81st St., New York, N.Y.

Exhibited some of her lithographs at the Kentlands Mansion, Gaithersburg, Md., Oct. 2-Nov. 4, 1998.

Patricia Underwood

Exhibited mixed media prints in the Corcoran Gallery's 'Artsites '98' show at the Maryland Art Place, Baltimore Md., June 11-July 10. The show was curated by Tex Andrews. She also exhibited mixed media prints Nov. 1-Nov. 30, at the Lammas Bookstore, 1607 17th St. NW, Washington, D.C. 202-775-8218. In conjunction with the exhibit, she also presented a lecture "Bimbos & Goddesses" Nov. 22, at the bookstore.
