New Board of Directors and Committee Chairs

Bernard Shleien will be our next Vice President and Public Relations representative. He is currently on the Continuing Education Faculty at the Maryland College of Art and Design. He retired from the Commissioned Corp of the US Public Health Service, worked in Israel for the Ministry of Health and ran his own publication and consulting business. For over a decade he served as editor of “The Health Physics and Radiological Health Handbook.” Some years ago he decided to return again to his early fascination with art.

Shireen Holman is the new editor of the newsletter. She will begin to take over the position of Newsletter Editor beginning with the December issue. She and Megan O'Brien will work together to help make a smooth transition.  For the past few years she has been concentrating on making artist's books using handmade paper, woodcuts and screenprints. Two of her books are in the collection of the National Gallery of Art, and have been exhibited in the National Museum of Women in the Arts, as well as in various exhibitions across the country. She also is represented in Rockport Publishers' 1999 publication, "Making Memory Books by Hand."   She served on the board of directors of Pyramid Atlantic for 7 years, and since then has written a database application for them and has designed and maintains their website.

Marcia Brown will be taking over the position of 2nd Vice President as well as heading up the exhibitions committee.  Marcia is a resident printer and the letterpress project coordinator at Pyramid Atlantic, and adjunct faculty at the Corcoran School of Art and Design.  Her work often combines traditional or antique methods such as handset type or cyanotypes with other print media. Currently, she is combining her interest in books and prints by working as Assistant Coordinator for Pyramid Atlantic's Sixth Book Arts Fair. Her work has appeared in a solo exhibition at the Portsmouth Museum in Virginia, and in group shows throughout the U.S.

Bridget Lambert will begin to take over the position of Treasurer.  Bridget Lambert, Assistant Director (B.A., University of Maryland, College Park), a professional graphic designer and artist, has been with Pyramid for over six years. As Assistant Director of Pyramid Atlantic, she coordinates our membership and volunteer program, assists with long-range planning, educational programs, artist projects, and coordination of special events, manages our computer systems, and is responsible for book distribution.

As a graphic designer and resident printer at Pyramid Atlantic, she participates in presentations for art educators, teaches alternative process printmaking workshops at Pyramid Atlantic, works with students to incorporate the computer in the creation of artworks, and designs our publications for programs and other activities.  Bridget has completed a two-week residency (August, 1999) in Skopelos, Greece, where she collaborated with resident artists in digital imaging and printmaking and completed two handmade books. Bridget has also served as an exchange artist for the Crossing Over Consortium in Athens, Greece, and completed an internship at the Fabric Workshop in Philadelphia, PA. As a resident printmaker at Pyramid Atlantic, she has assisted in production for numerous artists and uses her computer capabilities to provide digital imaging for artists' projects. Her work has been included in Prints Washington, 1997, and the Crossing Over/Changing Places exhibition, both at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., and Hyper Studio at the McLean Project for the Arts, VA, in February 1999. Her work is currently on display in Contemporary Collaborations, The Artist and the Master Printer at the Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington.
