President's Letter

Happy New Year! I wish you all a healthy, creative and prosperous 1999. The Board of Directors have been very busy making preparations for the Maryland Printmakers’ agenda for the new year. As you know there are several wonderful exhibition opportunities coming up for the spring and we are pursuing requests to show throughout the area for the summer.

A special thanks to the many members who have helped with exhibition plans and possibilities. We also are working hard on festivities for the Tenth Anniversary Celebration in October 1999. Very soon you will be notified about the exact date and location. At this time I am urging members to contact me with regard to helping with this very special event. Plans are also being developed for the Tenth Anniversary Portfolio which will be a very important and excellent opportunity for all of you to participate in this year. Get ready, we want this to be the best portfolio yet!

I am planning to attend the Southern Graphics Council Conference this March at Arizona State University in Tempe. I look forward to participating in the conference at my alma mater and I am especially honored to represent the Maryland Printmakers as its president. I hope to secure additional opportunities for Maryland printmakers and to inform and share information with other printmaking organizations.

We have much work to do to prepare for upcoming exhibitions and events.

I am asking all of you to take a moment and reflect on what Maryland Printmakers has meant to you and how it has helped you to accomplish good things in your own careers. I want everyone’s participation this year and especially need you to come forward for the Tenth Anniversary Celebration. I have a special request—I would like each member to try to find five new members to join our organization and to help encourage students of printmaking to become members and enjoy the many opportunities available to them. With increased membership we could expand our budget and our resource of talented printmakers and arts professionals. New members bring new ideas and help share the responsibility of the organization. Veteran members offer history, mentorship and a community atmosphere. Everyone working together will generate excitement and strength. Many thanks for your efforts and commitment.

Sincerely,

Susan J. Goldman
