Pamela Harris Lawton was thrilled to be selected to participate in this year's
"Power of Art" workshop for art teachers. Pamela just completed her second
year as an art teacher at Northwestern High School in Prince George's County,
Md. The annual workshop is sponsored by the Washington Lab School and the
Robert Rauchenburg Foundation. Maryland Printmaker Camillia Blackwell was
selected to participate in the workshop in 1995.
The purpose of the program is to help art teachers identify and teach learning
disabled students through the arts. The workshop provides art teachers from
all over the country with an opportunity to exchange ideas with each other,
the faculty and students of the Washington Lab School and a famous artist
with learning disabilities. Robert Rauschenburg was unable to attend this
year and Chuck Close appeared in his stead. Twenty-three teachers from twenty
states were selected to participate.
