Maryland Printmakers
Letters from the Editors
(Archived version from March, 1998 - click here for current)

For the past two years I have felt honored while serving as a Vice President, and then as Editor for the Maryland Printmakers InPrint newsletter. I have written several articles, attended many meetings, and contributed many ideas. Three of these articles were: 'A Day with Robert Rauschenberg,' "Get Noticed: Publicize Your Exhibition Successfully," and "The Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop in New York City."

After having two successful solo exhibitions of my own original prints at the Johns Hopkins Space Science Telescope Center in 1992, and 1997, I gave the name of the curator to the board members and encouraged plans for a Maryland Printmakers exhibition at the Space Science Telescope Center. The exhibition came to fruition and was a success greatly due to follow-up efforts by Richard Hellman and Nichol Law.

Many of my suggestions helped direct Richard Hellman to Rich Pallansch, our graphic artist for the newsletter. There have been no regrets for responding "yes" to Richard Hellman when he asked me to serve as Editor a year ago, at a time when he needed assistance. As Editors, Megan O'Brien and I have produced four newsletters over the past year. It has been an enjoyable experience working with Richard, and Megan O'Brien, as well the other board members.

I anticipate remaining active with Maryland Printmakers, however the time has come once again for me to make my work as a fine artist my primary priority. The International Center For Artistic Development, Inc., of which I am Executive Director, has expanded to include an art gallery and gift shop at the wonderful, Historic Savage Mill Artistic Complex.

Megan O'Brien will continue to serve the organization in the capacity as Editor. Undoubtedly, she will continue her outstanding work. With your support to the Board, and to Megan, Maryland Printmakers will continue to have success as the wonderful conduit for Maryland artists it has become. I trust the teamwork and mutual respect that has existed among the present board and active members will continue to flourish and bring rewarding experiences, the sharing of ideas, and continued artistic growth and development through education and outreach to the public.

Respectfully submitted,

Welcome to 1998. We would like to remind everyone that the newsletter belongs to the members. The newsletter is your link to share ideas, concerns and accomplishments with the other printmakers. It is your opportunity to announce exhibitions in which you may be participating or organizing. You may also announce courses, trips and opportunities that you want to be available to the membership. When provided, photos of your work can also be published. Recently, the newsletter moved to the Internet which has expanded the visibility of the Maryland Printmakers and the members tremendously. The article in this issue, by Matt Laur, details the Internet access to Maryland Printmakers Online. When sending information, remember to check the deadline for the next issue. It is six weeks prior to publication. Send all information to Megan O'Brien.
