MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
December, 1997

Dear Members:

For those of you who missed the Fall Meeting, I would like to bring you up to date on who's doing what, and "what's planned for the future. I am very grateful for the current support I am getting at this time. Thanks to Mary and Matt Laur, Maryland Printmakers is now on the web. Mary will manage the site and put the newsletter on line. Matt is a professional and can set up a web site for you individually. If interested, five him a call to find out more: 301-330-4306.

Nicole Law, one of our recent new members, took on Exhibitions Chair and I s doing excellent work contacting people, organizing and planning. Please give her a round of applause. Her phone number is listed in the newsletter if you need to contact her.

Doris Eisen took over 1st Vice President from Jane Eddy, and organized the general meeting we just had at Towson University. Thank you very much. Jane is staying active by serving as trouble shooter when needed.

Pam Lawton and Linda Harrison Parsons just finished doing a workshop at Northwest High School near College Park which was funded by Maryland Arts Council. Some of the large collaged collographs done at the school were displayed at the general meeting. Pam has taken over as Educaiton Chair, and Linda was kind enough to take over Public Relations for upcoming events.

Camellia Blackwell and Megan O'Brien are running a tight ship getting the newsletter together. I think you will all agree that they are doing a great job. Sue Anne Bottomley has been active writing articles for our newsletter InPrint and is our current secretary.

Thanks to Judith Sando, we have a beautiful new folio. As this years folio is designated to travel, give her a call if you have ideas for exhibition space. 301-469-7702

Pat Hynes is our new Membership Chair. We now have 175 paid members. If you have forgotten, please pay your dues so we can continue to print the newsletter and send it to you. Send checks to Sara Stout, MP Treasurer.

Thanks to Mimi Hefler for designing the recent entry and announcement for the Space Telescope show. Thanks to Phyllis Hofkin for making sure all of our correspondence is mailed to all of you on time.

As far as shows are concerned: The opening for the juried shows at the Johns Hopkins space Telescope was on November 4th. It will remain up until the end of December. Please arrange to see it.

Upcoming in February 1998, is a juried show at the beautiful gallery space at Catonsville Community College, which will feature printing plates, screens, woodblocks, etc. that produced each print in the show. Also in February, an exhibition is to be held at the Mattawoman Creek Art Center located in a gorgeous park on the water near Upper Marlboro. To coincide with taking down the show, we will have our Spring Meeting with a picnic there on March 29, 1998.

Other things are scheduled or being planned but are not fully sorted out. They will be announced at a later time. Sorry, still no news to report on the possible show at the Delaware Center for Contemporary Art. We should know more soon.

In closing, I would like to leave you with a gentle reminder that my term of office a President will expire at the spring '98 meeting. I know there are capable people out there. If you have any desire to hold this position and direct our growth over the next two years, please call me or e-mail me a rhellmanprint@uno.com or Tel: 410-486-2719. I would like to talk to you.
