The Center is a not-for-profit volunteer organization which encourages creative experience and appreciation of the visual arts.  The gallery's changing exhibits feature works produced by Highlands and other artists, and the shop sells juried handmade items marketed by the craftsmen. Included are pottery, wooden ware, jewelry,  stained glass, as well as needlework, quilts, and other fiber arts. Watercolor, oil, and graphic arts, framed and unframed, are also available.

The Center is located in downtown Clifton Forge, a city which shares with Covington and Alleghany County many outdoor recreational attractions in the area's forested mountains. Withina 45 minute drive are two famed resorts, The Homestead and The Greenbriar. Nearby are Lake Moomaw and Douthat State Park. Restaurants and other shopping opportunities are available.

From the east, leave I-64 at exit 27 and follow West 60 Business to the midtown municipal parking lot. From the west, take exit 24 from I-64 and follow East 60 Business and proceed to street or lot near the Center.
